International Symposium on Disturbances of Cerebral Function Induced by Food and Water Contaminants. March 2010

23/03/2010 - 24/03/2010
About the symposium

The International Symposium on Disturbances of Cerebral Function Induced by Food and Water Contaminants will be held in Valencia, Spain on March 23-24, 2010.

The main objective of this Symposium is to facilitate the exchange of information and the interaction and collaboration between researchers participating in research dealing with the neurotoxic and neurodevelopmental effects of food and water contaminants.

The speakers will include leading representatives from the European Commission research program, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and outstanding researchers from different countries.

The contamination of food and water by chemical hazards is a worldwide public health concern. The more recent advances in the effects of food contaminants on cerebral function and development will be discussed by the participants, who are leading researchers in these matters. The symposium will cover physiological mechanisms of environmental and food-linked environmental hazards; analysis of the effects of cumulative, low dose and combined exposures; long-term effects; impact of endocrine disrupters; chronic chemical pollution and related aspects. New proteomics and genomics approaches to study the toxic effects of food contaminants in brain will be also discussed.

In summary, the symposium will discuss the forefront issues in the field of impact of food and water contaminants on brain function and development.  This will allow the attendants to more clearly understand the more relevant open issues in the field.
